When the Mexican military demanded the return of a bronze cannon, the Texian militia defiantly refused, declaring, Come and take it. In response, Sarah Seely DeWitt and her daughter, Evaline, created a flag featuring a hand drawn cannon with the words COME AND TAKE IT.
