Pair of Afshar Sumakh Saltbags Material:Wool Wool and silk contemporary Tabriz55 x 55 cm each Woven around Sirjan village, Kerman province, by Afshar tribeswomen in the early 1900s. Perfectly preserved with original end tassels. Unusually woven in Sumakh flat weave, a more complex kilim technique. These bags are called namakdan and were used to store salt, a very expensive and inaccessible commodity in the premodern age.
