On this day they were intrigued by a bent limb that became a wonderful backdrop for this photograph

This was likely due to being in poor condition from lack of nourishment before going into hibernation

I spend every Earth Day somewhere in nature and doing some photography

which prevents them from being at risk from a predator harming them in their den

Birch trees are special to Canadians for many reasons and are symbolic of our northern spirit.
