While walking the historic Nakasend Trail, I wandered into a small ceramics studio in one of the villages. I struck up a conversation with the potter and was deeply inspired by his philosophy and connection to the land. I purchased a beautiful cup he had made from clay he had gathered from a nearby river. That encounter stayed with me. In creating this
