On of the staples binding the book together has fallen out and the other is rusty and very brittle

though the event schedule is now a bit outdated

This was usually used for detonation wire or for cables to secure large antennas etc

The box has a date of 1934 - meaning that the box was built to standards specified in 1934

It appears to be German, but it is certainly odd compared with most other original German essentrgers. The hinge for the lid is very unusual and the loops for the shoulder straps are a little small. It does need some work and it is missing the actual aluminum food container and the closure bolts nuts. It does have a really nice look, and the overall shape is very good for a WWII German one. Could
