This antique  rug is of all wool construction and so probably produced in a village or nomadic setting for domestic use

Diba underlay Pinks and reds with accentsA 1940s Tekke Turkmen carpet from north Afghanistan. The characteristic gul and ari gul motifs are rendered in dark blue, brown and natural on a soft, pale red ground that has faded from the original darker red as can be seen on the verso. The colours are quite sensitive to light conditions. Try as we might, the central section shows as pink in the photos but in real life is more of a red brown.
